…. and the weather was kind to us (eventually).
A few of the group took a trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park on Monday 12th August for some plein air drawing and painting.
The weather looked somewhat dodgy at first, so we had a coffee in the main building and took the opportunity to look at the paintings of Carol Douglas, a local York based artist.
We then headed off to view the
Bharti Kher: Alchemies exhibition, a powerful display of sculpture and 2D art works, whilst the drizzly clouds passed over.
We then split up and headed off outside in different directions, to find whatever took our individual fancy;
- Daniel Arsham: Bronze Eroded Venus of Arles, and his other eroded bronze statues
- Nigel Hall: Crossing (Horizontal), one of his thought prevoking abstract sculptures
- Niki de Saint Phalle: Buddha, a highly decorative sculpture who’s mosaic surface was inspired by Gaudí
After an ourdoor lunch we took a wander around the Elizabeth Frink bronzes, and then settled again by the nine sculptures by Barbara Hepworth: The Family of Man, for some more sketching.
All in all a very enjoyable day filled with both looking at, and creating some wonderful art!
