ROGER HITCHEN

For most of my professional life I worked in both Further and Higher Education teaching Art and Design. In 2009 I retired and after a gap of over thirty years, in early 2010, I began to draw and paint again feeling that I wanted to go back to my roots.

For the first eight years I concentrated mainly on portrait drawing to regain the observational skills I had when younger and worked from life twice a week. In 2018 I began to explore other directions and started looking at different subject matter, also exploring the possibilities offered by the newer pastels surfaces which are on offer with the sanded papers.

Alongside this I have continued developing my oil painting skills and more recently I’m enjoying painting the wonderful shapes and colours found in water lilies.
