REDBRICK ARTISTS

I observe life with the help of sketches, studies, and fragmentary drawings. Figurative work is usually inspired by professional life models or family members. My landscapes are mainly painted in one sitting outdoors in the Yorkshire Dales or the Pembrokeshire coast.

Currently my work is not overtly political, but concerns about the state of the world we inhabit often appear unconsciously. Uncertainty and ambiguity; colour and spontaneity are all part of my personal language as a painter. Keeping an open mind, I am often surprised by what emerges and the story a painting begins to suggest.

It is left to the viewer to decide whether a painting is celebratory or unsettling - or anything else. I hope my paintings invite questions and engage the viewer in a life affirming process of looking.
